What’s happened? Here’s what to do.
Dental pain almost never fixes itself, and acting fast protects your tooth. Pick what’s going on.
Toothache or infection
Throbbing, sensitivity or pain when biting. Don’t wait it out: we find the cause and focus on relieving the pain first.
- Call us or request a callback and tell us where it hurts and for how long.
- We examine the tooth and take any X-rays we need to find the cause.
- Pain relief comes first, then we talk you through the treatment options and costs.
Broken or chipped tooth
Cracked, fractured or chipped teeth can be repaired and protected before the damage spreads.
- Call us or request a callback and tell us what happened.
- We examine the tooth and take any X-rays we need.
- We protect the tooth straight away and talk you through repairing it.
Knocked-out tooth
Teeth re-implanted quickly have the best chance of being saved. Do this, then call us immediately.
- Hold the tooth by the crown (the part you chew with), not the root.
- If it’s dirty, rinse it gently.
- Keep it moist: ideally back in the socket, or in a cup of milk.
- Call us straight away on 1300 356 777.
Lost filling or crown
An exposed tooth can be painful and vulnerable. We’ll re-seal or replace it, often in the same visit.
- Call us or request a callback and tell us which tooth.
- We check the tooth underneath, then re-seal or replace it.
Swelling or abscess
Facial swelling or a gum abscess can become serious quickly, so don’t leave it.
- Call us now so we can see you as soon as possible.
- If the swelling is severe, or you have trouble swallowing or breathing, go to your nearest hospital emergency department.
Not sure it’s an emergency?
Call us and describe what’s happening. We’ll tell you honestly how urgent it is, and there’s no judgement if it’s been a while since your last visit.
Severe facial swelling, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or bleeding that won’t stop? Go to your nearest hospital emergency department or call 000.
